I was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico and at two years old moved to California where I spent most of my childhood years. In 2004, I moved to Fort Worth, Texas. I am a first-generation college student. I have a great interest in the human body & its functions (and yes, Grey’s Anatomy is one of my favorite shows on Netflix). Overall, I enjoy helping people. With my considerable interest in the medical field, I had originally decided to pursue a nursing degree in the ICU (intensive care unit) field, but life had different plans for me. In 2018, I graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management & Spanish. After months of job searching, I was blessed to become part of Pointwise.
Another interest I have is baking, which leads to my long-term goal of owning a small bakery/Mexican food restaurant. This is one of the reasons why I decided to major in Business Management. Initially, I plan to gain experience in business administration while working for a company that allows me to practice the skills I have acquired during my college years. While working at Pointwise as part of the Business & Administrative Services team, I have been learning about their functions and processes. I have also been introduced to meshing and CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics, which by the way, I have memorized by heart).
Outside of work, my passion for music runs in both sides of the family. I was not blessed with the ability to play an instrument, but I do enjoy singing, a little TOO much perhaps. I have a goal to travel the world and visit the most beautiful places on earth as I am amazed with cultural differences, traditions, and dishes!!! I also love photography and feel this quote perfectly describes the combination of photography and traveling: “Taking an image, freezing a moment, reveals how rich reality truly is.” (anonymous)

What software or tools do you use every day?
On a daily basis, I use Spark Instant messenger, Outlook for calendar and email, and the Microsoft Office tools. I enjoy working with Excel and PowerPoint, creating presentations and playing with numbers and formulas. Although I use Excel regularly, I find myself learning new things every day. I am also currently learning how to work with SageCRM for NDAs and customer contacts.
What does your workspace look like?
I have a u-shaped desk currently next to the Christmas tree and on my desk sits a T-Rex dressed in a Christmas costume. What I really love about my space is the enormous floor to ceiling windows that are in front of my desk. The sun comes in early in the morning and I can feel the warm sun rays hitting my face. At the moment my desk is decorated for Christmas which creates a peaceful atmosphere. Every time a visitor walks in they always look around and mention how peaceful and cozy the reception area feels. Overall, I tend to have the reception area clean and well-organized with good aromatic candles that provide a welcoming atmosphere for anyone who walks in.
What are you currently working on?
Besides my receptionist responsibilities, I am currently working on creating a report and presentation based on the feedback provided by the attendees that participated in our User Group Meeting that took place in November.
What would you say is your specialty at Pointwise?
My primary specialty at Pointwise is welcoming guests, answering telephone calls, answering emails, and assisting customers with any questions or concerns that they may have. As part of the Business & Administrative Services team, my responsibilities also include ensuring that the building is well maintained. This involves contacting the appropriate vendors whenever we need repairs.
Any tips, tricks, or advice for our users?
For any tips or advice, please feel welcome to call Pointwise. I will be answering your call and will direct you to the correct department. Whether it is regarding a question for license renewals, technical support, or sales and marketing, we are happy to answer any questions that you may have.
What project are you most proud of and why?
The project that I am most proud of is assisting with the Pointwise User Group Meeting. Everyone at Pointwise contributed to putting together this stupendous and inspiring event. I was introduced to Pointwise distributors, exhibitors, and users. It was a pleasure to finally meet with the distributors and users of Pointwise because I am now able to put a face to the name when taking their calls. I enjoyed learning a bit more about their cultures and interests as well.
Have you recently read any books or articles we should know about?
Getting Naked by Patrick Lencioni is a short business fable that talks about how client loyalty and trust is achieved by overcoming three fears. One of my co-workers recommended it to me as it seems that this book is passed down to every new hire at Pointwise. I enjoyed reading this book because it was quite entertaining and it provided beneficial tips and advice on how to be successful in a small or large business. I definitely recommend this book!
Do you plan on attending any conferences or workshops this year?
As a receptionist, I am not required to attend any conferences or workshops unless they are training sessions related to my work/responsibilities, User Group Meetings, meetings with Pointwise distributors, exhibitors, and/or users. Then, I would definitely contribute to such events.
What do you do when you’re not surrounded by engineers making meshes?
When not surrounded by engineers, I spend time with my family. I am the oldest of five children and the only girl with four younger brothers. My brothers and I enjoy hiking the Eagle Mountain Park Trails, Marion Sansom Park Trails, and Trinity River Trails located in and around Fort Worth. I also enjoy baking, drawing, and music. In addition, I am a chocolate and coffee addict and ice cream lover. You will almost always find me at Albertson’s on the ice cream aisle all year long. The cold weather does not stop me.
What is some of the best advice you’ve received?
The best advice I have received was from a sermon using the metaphor of a tree: “Stand tall and proud, go out on a climb, remember your roots, drink plenty of water, be content with your natural beauty and enjoy the view.”
My interpretation signifies standing up for your beliefs, nourish your soul, and ignore small imperfections and negativity that may disturb your inner peace; but overall, always be thankful for what you have.
If you had to pick a place to have dinner, where would you go?
I am an enthusiast for Middle Eastern and Chinese cuisines. In addition, Italian and Mexican food are great as well. During my college years, I was introduced to Jasmine’s Mediterranean Grill located in Denton, Texas. My favorite dish is the Shawarma Chicken Plate arranged with chicken roasted on a rotating spit served with garlic sauce, along with a side of rice pilaf and thick, creamy hummus served with pita bread. This dish can never go wrong!
